Rolend with a Salmon Sized Dolly
Even though the fish in the photo above may not look that big, it is significantly larger than any of the "dollies" that I have caught to date. I would say that it easily surpasses the ten pound mark bordering fifteen pounds. It was a large fish.
Bellyfull!
Usually when I go fishing I don't like to wear my waders because it's a pain to wear them and a gun at the same time. So, to cross the river I try to find the shallowest spot and then I take off my shoes and socks and roll up my pants. On this fishing excursion I had one of my little fishing buddies, Justin, with me. Since the water is a little high right now I ended up soaking my pants to just above my knees. Justin ended up soaking his pants to his waist. The water has to be nearly freezing because it is so cold that it seems unlikely that it should still be in its liquid form. No, this is not a spawning Dolly. When I cut this fish open this is what its stomach looked like. It was stuffed absolutely full of salmon eggs.
Last week we had a very unique family visit our school. They were walking from a little northeast of Point Hope to Kotzebue. They had been walking for about a month by the time they got to Noatak. They were planning on making it to Kotzebue in another week or so. They also had a little 2 year old baby with them and the lady was pregnant. They decided to take it easy on this excursion because the woman was pregnant. Everybody was wondering why they do this, but apparently they do it for fun. On their longest walking excursion they walked from Seattle almost to Unalaska. I guess it took them over a year. The woman wrote a book called, "A Long Walk Home." It could probably be a pretty interesting story.
We also changed our living situation around in our apartment. Kayla was having trouble sleeping when it was staying light out until late and with all of the noise with our bedroom being next to the exterior wall. So we moved our bed into the living room and moved our living room into the bedroom. Now we get to take advantage of looking out our one and only window when we are sitting in the living room. We also get to sleep in darkness and peace and quiet now that we aren't sleeping right next to the outside wall. It is a little bit weird having our bed in the living room slash kitchen but it's worthwhile being able to sleep good at night and actually look out our window.
Mark will be soooo jealous..... I'll have to show him these pictures when he gets home from work.... we have all kinds of salmon down here in the rivers and Mark goes Fly fishing for trout.... he's a little crazy in my opinion.... he always tries to make a good fishing situation challenging... haha, we have some small dollys down here, but he will die when he sees these!
